Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you book.

The Hunt
Is this a guided or self-guided hunt?
Wild Hair Ranch is a fully self-guided operation. There is no guide on the property with you. You use your own skills, calls, and tactics. We provide exclusive access to private land, the lodge, and meals — the hunting strategy is yours. This hunt is best suited for experienced turkey hunters who are comfortable working independently in the field.
What subspecies can I hunt at Wild Hair Ranch?
Wild Hair Ranch offers Osceola wild turkey hunts only. The Osceola — also called the Florida turkey — is one of four subspecies that make up the Grand Slam and is found exclusively in Florida. The property sits in the heart of Central Florida’s prime Osceola range.
Is this hunt good for completing the Grand Slam?
Yes — and that’s exactly what many of our hunters come here for. The Osceola is the most geographically restricted subspecies in the Grand Slam and the one most hunters pursue last. Wild Hair Ranch puts you on private, unpressured land in prime Osceola country. If the Osceola is the bird you need, this is the right place to chase it.
What does the property look like? What habitat is available?
The property features classic Central Florida Osceola habitat — pine flatwoods, palmetto scrub, and open terrain. This is the mix that Osceola have thrived in for generations. Hunters also have the option to access additional nearby farm properties during their stay, depending on availability.
Will other hunting parties be on the property at the same time?
Yes. We allow 4 hunters per year. It is possible that there will be another hunter but rest assured, there is plenty of space for everyone to hunt in our three large tracts of land.
What if I don’t harvest a turkey?
We want to be upfront about this. Osceola are wild birds and hunting is never guaranteed. We do everything we can to give you the best possible setup — prime habitat, unpressured land, exclusive access — but whether a bird comes in is ultimately up to the birds and your execution. We do not offer refunds or discounts based on harvest outcome. That’s hunting, and most serious hunters understand and respect that going in.
What time does hunting begin and end each day?
Florida turkey season legal hunting hours run from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. In practice, the most productive window is the first two to three hours after first light. We’ll have breakfast ready before dawn so you can be in the field at first light. Your schedule is your own — hunt as long as you like within legal hours.

Licenses & Regulations
Do I need a Florida hunting license?
Yes. Every hunter — resident and non-resident — must have a valid Florida hunting license to hunt at Wild Hair Ranch. This is your responsibility and must be obtained before you arrive. Do not assume you can purchase it locally the morning of your hunt. Purchase online at myfwc.com well in advance of your trip.
Do I need a turkey permit in addition to my hunting license?
Yes. A Florida wild turkey permit is required in addition to your hunting license. Both are available through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at myfwc.com. Purchase both at the same time when you buy your license.
I’m from out of state. What do I need?
Non-resident hunters need a Florida non-resident hunting license plus a Florida wild turkey permit. Both are available at myfwc.com. Non-resident licenses are more expensive than resident licenses — budget accordingly. You should also be aware of your home state’s requirements for transporting harvested turkey across state lines, as regulations vary.
How many turkeys can I harvest?
Florida wild turkey bag limits are set by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and are subject to change each season. Check current regulations at myfwc.com before your trip. Each hunter is responsible for knowing and following all applicable regulations.
What are the legal shooting hours in Florida?
Florida turkey hunting legal hours run from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. Confirm current regulations at myfwc.com — regulations can change season to season and each hunter is responsible for hunting within legal hours.

Lodging & Meals
What is included in the rental price?
The rate includes exclusive private land access for your party, lodging in the three-bedroom three-bath ranch house for three nights, and all meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. Wi-Fi, and outdoor space are also included. What is not included: hunting licenses and permits, firearms and ammunition, personal hunting gear, and transportation to and from the ranch.
How many people can stay at the ranch?
The ranch house has three bedrooms, so up to three hunters can stay comfortably — one per bedroom. The rate covers the full property regardless of whether you come with one, two, or three hunters. If you have additional non-hunting guests, contact us to discuss options before booking.
Are meals really included? What kind of food?
Yes — breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included every day of your stay. Breakfast is served before first light so you can be in the field at dawn. Lunch is midday at the lodge. Dinner is in the evening after your hunt. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences, let us know when you book and we will do our best to accommodate.
Is there Wi-Fi at the ranch?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available at the ranch house. Cell coverage in Central Florida rural areas can be variable depending on your carrier — plan accordingly if you need reliable data connectivity while in the field.
Can non-hunters come along?
The ranch is set up as a hunting operation and the experience is designed around that. If you have a non-hunting spouse or companion who wants to join, contact us before booking to discuss. We want to make sure the setup works for everyone in your party before you commit.
Are children allowed?
Contact us before booking if you plan to bring a child. Junior hunters are welcome with appropriate adult supervision, and Florida has specific regulations around youth hunting licenses. We want to make sure the experience is set up properly and safely for younger hunters before confirming the reservation.

Once dates are confirmed, we will send you a secure Stripe payment link for the deposit to hold your reservation.
How much is the deposit and when is the balance due?
A 50% deposit of $1,500 is required to hold your dates. Your reservation is not confirmed until the deposit is received. The remaining balance of $1,500 is due 30 days before your arrival date. We will send a reminder as that date approaches.
How do I pay?
We use Stripe for all payments. After confirming your dates, we will send you a secure Stripe payment link by email. Stripe accepts all major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. You do not need a Stripe account to pay.
Is the deposit refundable?
The deposit is non-refundable. If you need to cancel, we will make every reasonable effort to rebook your dates. If we are able to rebook the same dates, your deposit may be applied toward a future stay at our discretion. If the remaining balance has been paid and you cancel within 30 days of arrival, the full amount is forfeited. We recommend purchasing trip cancellation insurance if travel disruption is a concern.
How far in advance should I book?
Florida turkey season runs in both spring and fall. Spring season runs March through April; fall season runs November 1 through December 28. Prime dates — especially weekends and early season — fill quickly. We recommend booking as early as possible, ideally three to six months in advance. If you are flexible on dates, last-minute availability occasionally opens up — contact us and we will let you know what is available.

Travel & Getting There
What are the nearest airports?
The two closest major airports are Orlando International (MCO) and Tampa International (TPA). Both are within driving distance of the property. Exact drive times will be provided with your booking confirmation once your dates are reserved. We recommend renting a truck or SUV — you will want the cargo space for gear and any harvested birds.
Is there parking at the ranch?
Yes. There is parking available on the property for your vehicles for the duration of your stay.
Will I get exact directions to the property?
Yes. Exact property address and detailed arrival instructions will be provided after your reservation is confirmed and deposit received. We do not publish the property address publicly out of respect for the land and neighboring property owners.
Are there hotels nearby if I want to arrive a day early?
Yes. Central Florida has a range of hotels and motels at various price points within a reasonable drive of the ranch. We will include nearby lodging recommendations with your booking confirmation for hunters who want to arrive the night before their scheduled check-in.

Weather & Conditions
What is the weather like during spring turkey season?
Florida spring turkey season runs March through April. Mornings are typically warm — often in the 60s at first light — and afternoons can reach the 80s. Humidity is significant. Rain is common, especially afternoon thunderstorms. Pack lightweight camo, waterproof boots, and rain gear regardless of the forecast. Florida weather changes fast.
Are hunts cancelled due to rain?
No. Rain alone is not a reason to cancel a hunt — turkeys are still active and the land is still yours. Many experienced hunters prefer overcast, light-rain mornings for Osceola. Bring rain gear and plan to hunt regardless of light weather. Hunts are only cancelled in the event of a named tropical storm, severe thunderstorm warning, or declared emergency affecting the property — in which case we will work with you to reschedule.
Are there snakes or other hazards on the property?
Yes. Central Florida is home to several venomous snake species including Eastern diamondback rattlesnake, cottonmouth, and pygmy rattlesnake. Snake boots are strongly recommended — not optional. Stay alert in palmetto and tall grass areas, watch where you step and sit, and always have a plan for accessing emergency medical care. The property also has standard Florida wildlife including alligators near water sources. Exercise appropriate caution and use common sense.
What about mosquitoes and insects?
Florida mosquitoes are serious — especially near wetland edges and in the early morning hours. Bring DEET-based insect repellent and treat your clothing with permethrin spray before your trip. Check for ticks after every morning hunt. This is not optional — come prepared.
